AS - 124AS_RL_white
The Fiat Spider . . . purchased in Bonn Germany before transfer to Beirut, has a whole history and intrepid story of its own. Rumor has it it may still be roaming the streets of Beirut. Owned by Joe Alex Morris Jr. of the Los Angeles Times. He was the only American journalist to be killed during the 1979 Iranian revolution. Addition by Doyle MacManus: Joe gave me the car for "safekeeping" after Beirut was evacuated. I had a lovely time driving it around Lebanon, including a rather dicey day shuttling between Maronite and Shia villages along the Israeli boarder. But I wasn't very good at safekeeping: I parked it on the street outside the Commodore Hotel and came out early one morning to discover that a gunman had taken residence in the reclining front seat. He and I quickly came to an amicable agreement: He could sleep in the car at night as long as I could use it for reporting in the daytime, when he was off fighting. Found at facebook in 2022
