This car first appeared on Shaun's radar in the fall of 2008, advertised on a Long Island Craigslist ad. Shaun contacted the seller and kept in touch with her for many months while the money was found to purchase the car. She wanted it to go to a good home more than anything, and the idea of adding the Spider to the Garagemahal collection really appealed to her. In March of 2009, a deal was finally struck and the car was picked up and brought home to Pennsylvania. A good scrubbing its first day here cleaned off years of dust that had accumulated in the carport in which it had lived for ten or so years. This car has not only all of the proper 'Pre-A-series' equipment (heater controls on dash, no consoles, no side trim spears, etc.), but it also has the German equivalent of DOT's requirements as well, including a special VIN plate, half-amber front and rear turn signals, and small front sidemarker lamps. The interior of this Spider is in amazing condition...definitely the highpoint of the car factored into the purchase. The dash, dash wood, and steering wheel are cracked, and the lower kick panels need replacement. The rest is fine. The rockers need rust repair work performed, and the car was not running when I purchased it. Finally, both front and rear bumpers will be replaced due to rust. Otherwise, this is an incredibly nice example of a very early 124 Spider.
